The 2019 Toyota Tundra features an optional TRD Off-Road package that improves your truck’s off-roading capabilities. Let’s see what makes it so unique and special.
Toyota features an impressive lineup for both midsize and full-sized truck segments, the Tacoma and the Tundra. Both are coming off impressive sales months in part due to their reputations for long-term reliability and dependability, as well as their off-road capabilities when we want to drive off the beaten paths.
The 2019 Toyota Tundra offers a TRD Off-Road package on many of its models to help you in many ways, both with performance and in appearance.
What does TRD Off-Road include?
First impressions are everything they say. By the way, I still have not figured out who “they” are. The initial features you will notice on the 2019 Toyota Tundra TRD Off-Road are the upgraded 18” split 5-spoke silver with gloss black accented alloy wheels which ride on Michelin all-terrain tires.
TRD Off-Road package elevates your off-roading experience with trail-tuned Bilstein shock absorbers to soften the blow when encountering tough and uneven terrain. Engine and fuel tank skid plates protect underneath your truck against rocks, sticks and stumps. Front tow hooks are added if not already standard with your Tundra configuration.
Tundra LED headlights and LED fog lights are also part of the package with SR5 grade levels. These LED lights are already standard on Limited and 1794 Edition models. In addition, the package includes TRD Off-Road floor mats and bed side decals.
Unlike the 2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road and 2019 Toyota 4Runner Off-Road, the Tundra Off-Road package does not include multi-terrain select and crawl control systems. These are important off-roading tools to help you conquer tougher terrain and obstacles.
What Tundra configurations have TRD Off-Road?
For truck buyers wanting the Off-Road package, you can find it available in many 2019 Toyota Tundra SR5, Limited and 1794 Edition models (the 1794 Edition is really something to see).
While not available in the 4.6-liter V8 engine option, your 2019 Tundra with Off-Road package will always have the 5.7-liter V8 engine that produces 381 horsepower and 401 lb.-ft. torque. This truck has what it takes to get you going strong and keep you going. I was surprised by how smooth it feels driving both at lower speeds in the city and at highway cruising speeds during the test drive portion of my review.
The Off-Road package is available in both two-wheel drive and part-time four-wheel drive. You will find it configured as either Double Cab (which can have a 6.5’ or 8.1’ bed) or CrewMax cab, which features two full-size front doors and two full-size rear doors, an extremely spacious back seat and a 5.5’ bed.

Tundra Towing Capacity
Overall, the 2019 Toyota Tundra offers a wide range of towing capacities to accommodate all that you need to haul and pull. At the lower end of the towing totem pole is Tundra SR5 CrewMax 4x4 with the 4.6-liter engine. This capacity is 6,400 pounds. The maximum tow capacity is 10,200 which can be matched up with the SR5 Double Cab 4x4 5.7-liter engine.
What about the pricing Jeff?
The Tundra TRD Off-Road package is available for a retail MSRP of either $2,790 or $2,845 depending on the model and configuration. The 2019 Tundra I tested was an SR5 CrewMax 4x4 with the 5.7-liter engine. This model has a base factory MSRP of $40,245 without any upgraded options and packages.
At the highest end of the cost spectrum, MSRP base price is $50,685 for the 1794 Edition CrewMax 4x4 with 5.7-liter engine.
Safety. Safety. Safety.
One chief reason we stay loyal to Toyota is its long-standing reputation for quality, dependability and reliability. I receive comments and emails regularly from Toyota Tundra and Tacoma owners who have extremely high mileage on their trucks and they are still going strong. In fact, one of my friends has a 2008 Toyota Tacoma with over 1.2 million miles (he drives a ridiculous amount of miles for his work) and it is still gaining more windshield time each and every day.
What do you think of the 2019 Toyota Tundra TRD Off-Road package? Would you buy a full-size truck in 4x2 or 4x4? Overall feelings about the Tundra? Do you have high miles on the truck you are driving?
