They say a dog is a man’s best friend. For most dog lovers, this affection definitely goes both ways. See how one Toyota Tacoma owner modified his cab to give his furry best friends more space.
Many people are happily willing to bend over backward for their pets. This is what we do as humans. After all, dogs and cats and many other animals are our best friends. We would do anything for them. But, how many people would completely modify their vehicle’s back seat to make sure their puppies have the most space possible during road trips?
Yesterday I was making the rounds in my Toyota Tacoma online forum, seeing all that is new and interesting in the world of Tacoma’s. You see, I am completely obsessed with the Tacoma and love virtually everything about them. I came across a simple picture posted by a man who built a level platform in the back seat of his Toyota Tacoma Access Cab so that his two pups could have more space. Mind. Blown! A dog’s best friend right there.
How does one go about making a dog platform on a Toyota Tacoma anyway?
He said it only took him about three hours and less than $50 to build. I wish I had this type of creativity to see a problem and do something about it that not only provides a solution, but makes it possible to ride with your best friends anytime you want.
What is also convenient is that the platform is versatile and can be used or not used while traveling. “It's easily removable, though, so when they aren't riding with me I can just toss it in the bed.” Somewhere in the world MacGyver is envious.
What is so special about a Toyota Tacoma?
The Toyota Tacoma has a long history of long-term quality, reliability and dependability. It is a mechanical no-brainer and as they say, “you just cannot kill a Tacoma.” Meanwhile, see the benefits of 2019 Toyota Tacoma with Multi-Terrain Select and Crawl Control here.

I am also very familiar with this Tacoma Access Cab in question. It is ideal when you want a dependable truck but do not need very much back seat space for passengers and certainly not dogs. Access Cab simply has less space than its bigger Double Cab counterpart. On a side note, the Toyota Tacoma is available with a 4-cylinder or V6 engine, and also two-wheel or four-wheel drive.
I think there is a life lesson to be learned here. You try to take a shortcoming and turn it into a positive. Wait, isn’t that also what they say about a job interview question too (Q: What is one of your weaknesses? A: Well, I don’t have a lot of experience yet in this field, but I have been told many times that people are surprised how quickly I learn and pick new things up... BOOM thank me later!).
Same thing applies to this special Toyota Tacoma Access Cab. Not a ton of back seat passenger room but it is designed to be that way. “If you build it they will come.” Build a comfy cozy platform and your puppies will be so grateful and can travel with their best friend everywhere. Happy times and happy best friends.
And let’s hear from the gallery
Apparently this was not the only handyman to modify his truck so furry co-pilots can be more comfortable. “I made a platform with a foldable ramp for my elderly pup. No friend left behind!” said one forum member.
Another seconded the need for puppy love, “Dogs are people too!”

Wish every DIY project I did ended up on Google news. Must be a slow day in news (thankfully). Ima go change my oil and see if it shows up on a blog.

I did this years ago for my 2016. It doesn’t need to be anywhere near that elaborate. A single padded upholstered board (18x48) with altered stud hangers for hooks on the back. Just flip the seats down and hook it on the kid seat retainers. Comes out in about 10 seconds and a human can use it.
Been there done that. I did
Been there done that. I did that in my 07 Tundra for a drive from California to North Carolina and back, some 3000+ miles each way. My Lab seemed comfortable with my handiwork.

I don't get it. I have a 2008 Access Cab and the rear seats fold down making a perfectly usable "platform" for my dog. The foldable seats in the pics appear to have been removed?
