While we likely not have the official August 2012 sales figures from around the American auto industry until early next week, a GM representative has stated that the Chevrolet Volt is on pace to sell over 2,500 units – marking the best ever sales month for the electric Chevy along with the best sales month for a single EV in the US.

This weekend as the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series arrive at Atlanta Motor Speedway they will be joined by a specially painted pink 2012 Chevrolet Camaro SS Coupe that will serve as the official pace car for Sunday’s Advocare 500 – lapping the field under caution while also donating money to the American Cancer Society.

While GM has not confirmed the news, unnamed sources have indicated that the General Motors Hamtramck Assembly Plant that builds the Chevrolet Volt will take four weeks off starting in September and running through October – marking the second time this year where GM has paused production of the hot selling electric Chevy.
