Yes, the first time I heard
Yes, the first time I heard our friend's Alfa Romeo 1750, I couldn't believe the deep roar it made. That symphony, the old leather and oil smell was simply fantastic. I had the pleasure to start up a few old Italians and then heading out in the Riviera mountains... I tell you, heaven is on Earth! I've also seen them take their Bugattis up the windy mountain roads. Spectacular how nimble and fast they are/were.
Speaking of one engine that completely took me by surprise was the Matra 650 our friend restored. When it comes to V12, Ferrari holds its own but that Matra was spectacular. A high pitch Soprano with well developed mid-ranges. I was floored. Then it was as spectacular seeing this things trying to climb up the plastic podium ramp under a rainy day.
While I think new electric cars are great, they can and will never replace old cars. It's like someone who likes French cheese and then discovers Dutch cheeses. They are different and equally good. Now if we could only replicate the shape with an electricdrive and Bose speakers...
