This 6th Gen Chevrolet Camaro Rendering Portrays a Horrifying Future
First thing first – the details behind this trio of images explain that this is not a rendering of the next generation Chevrolet Camaro. It is actually a set of renderings created by General Motors design intern Michael McGee and I want to state very clearly that I don’t mean to criticize his work. The quality of work is incredible but the idea of the 6th generation Camaro looking like the concept shown here is literally horrifying. I am not one of the members of the automotive world who is afraid of change and I am hoping that General Motors comes up with something cutting edge with the 6th generation Camaro but this design is a big bucket of bad.
The front end of this Chevrolet Camaro rendering actually isnt too bad with a design that is something like a cross between the Corvette Stingray Concept that was featured in the Transformers Revenge of the Fallen and the new Camaro Concept featured in the most recent Transformers movie. You can definitely see the Camaro lines through the front end and somewhat through the sides but the back end is just plain gross. The taillights – both their basic design and how they sit on the body – look like something that should come off of a Japanese-sold Honda Civic with a lower rear fascia that is just too much. I can almost appreciate what the designer was going for with the lower portion of the rear end but those taillights and that rear deck design is brutally bad.
While the sinister looking front end of this Chevrolet Camaro rendering could actually send the 6th gen Camaro in the right direction in terms of basic aggressiveness but that is a back end that will almost surely hand the muscle car sales title over to Ford Motor Company on a silver platter. There was some obvious chatter in the American performance car community over the Evos design language at work across the front of the 2015 Ford Mustang but that would pale in comparison to the outrage over a 6th gen Camaro with a rump this ugly.
All in all, it really doesn’t seem likely that the 6th generation Chevrolet Camaro will look anywhere near as “foreign” as the images shown above but if this rendering is even remotely in the general direction of the next generation Camaro – the 2016 or 2017 Camaro could have a vastly redesigned look that could really shake up the industry. Should General Motors be as radical with the next generation Camaro as they were with the design of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, the 6th generation Camaro could be completely unlike the current Camaro…we just hope that the back end shown above never went any further than the portfolio of this GM design intern.
