The 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat can go fast in a straight line, but it can’t compete with the 2015 Mercedes AMG GT on the circuit. Just like the muscle cars of the past, the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is incredibly quick in the quarter mile. It just ran a 10.85 elapse time with a trap speed of 126.18 mph. But take it out to the racing circuit and it won’t be able to compete with the driving dynamics of most European sports cars and certainly not the new 2015 Mercedes AMG GT.

AMG GT is the best driving machine on the planet

The 2015 Mercedes- Benz AMG GT has incredible driving dynamics and quite possibly the best driving machine on the planet. Isn’t that what performance enthusiasts want? Or do they want to just go fast for a few hundred feet between stop lights? The 2015 Mercedes AMG GT will be incredibly fast from a standing start, but more importantly, it will offer an incredible driving experience on the street and circuit.

Of course these cars are two totally different breeds of performance machines. The Hellcat is built for pure power and speed, the AMG GT is built for ultimate driving dynamics. Mercedes-AMG is never standing still and this is their second fully independently developed performance vehicle following the SLS AMG. 126.3 horsepower per liter

The 2015 Mercedes AMG GT is powered by a twin-turbocharged four-valve-per-cylinder 4.0-liter V8 gasoline engine that produces 503 hp at 6,250 rpm and 479 lb-ft of torque between 1,750 and 4,750 rpm. And it produces an amazing 126.3 horsepower per liter. By comparison, BMW M division's twin turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 direct-injection gasoline engine, used in the M5, M6 coupe and M6 cabriolet, pumps out 125.6 horsepower per liter. The Hellcat produces 114.03 hp per liter.

When will we finally see the new Mercedes-AMG GT? Mercedes says the new AMG performance car will make its world premiere this fall. AMG will likely build the most dynamic driving vehicle we have ever seen. It could be a direct competitor for the highly successful Porsche 911.

A new segment for the performance brand

AMG says the new sports car will create a new segment for the performance brand. Tobias Moers, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH says, "The new Mercedes-AMG GT shows that we will be positioning AMG more vehemently and aggressively than to date as a dynamic sports car brand."

It’s probably not fair to compare the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat to the 2015 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT on the circuit. And the AMG GT couldn't keep up with the Hellcat in the quarter mile. Both these performance cars have created impressive new benchmarks in their respective performance car segments. Which car would you rather have, a muscle car or a driving machine?
