2015 Lexus RC 350 F Sport stuns in Ultrasonic Blue Mica 2.0

Is blue making a comeback? Coupes sure are.

Although by overall sales our cars are overwhelmingly some shade of black, white or gray, some new coupes from Lexus and other car companies are making colors popular once again. A recent post by a 2015 Lexus RC 350 F Sport owner reminded us of the fact that not only are coupes having a big resurgence, color is also becoming part of the package.

Lexus’ Ultrasonic Blue Mica 2.0 is an optional color for the new RC coupe in the 350 F Sport trim. The rich color stands in stark contrast to the tan, beige, champagne, silver, gray cars we so often pass. Perhaps it takes a rear-drive coupe to bring back colors like this. Truth be told, the gray-scale cars (other than black) are all a lot easier to keep clean when the winter roads turn salty. Coupes are not always daily drivers, though of course they can be. Maybe the splashes of color we are seeing return indicate owners for whom the car is a special thing, rather than only a means of conveyance.

Swapalease says that only about six percent of cars we buy these days are blue. Black, white, silver, and gray make up 80%. With trucks being the number one vehicle type and mid-size and compact sedans the overwhelming second, seeing a coupe in blue is rare.

Coupes like the Lexus RC, BMW M4, Audi S5, and Camaro always look great in the gray-scale. However, it is nice to see some colors to give us a bit of variety.
