Mazda now taking orders for 2016 MX-5 Miata
Mazda has announced a new U.S. pre-order program for the all-new 2015 MX-5 Miata. Mazda says it will take pre-orders for 1,000 Launch Edition Miatas. The special edition will be limited to that number according to the company, so they could be collectable. According to Mazda, the Launch Edition features 17-inch alloy wheels, heated seats, automatic climate control, SiriusXM® satellite radio, MAZDA CONNECT™ Infotainment System with navigation, a BOSE® nine-speaker audio system, i-ACTIVSENSE safety technologies, including blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning and automatic high-beam control, among other amenities. Notably, it does not have the Bilstein suspension or limited slip differential.
Interestingly, Mazda has not said what the price of the new 2016 Launch Edition Miata will be, nor has the company said when customers might expect to take ownership of the car they order. The pre-order system goes live on May 5th, so presumably the Miatas that are reserved will ship some number of months from that date. Our initial projection date for seeing new Miatas in U.S. dealerships still seems accurate.
To participate, customers will first wait until May 5th. Then, they will scramble to order their 2016 Mazda Miata. The last time Mazda did something like this the inventory sold out in 10 minutes. If a potential buyer is lucky enough to get a slot, a deposit of $5,000 is required. There is a special gift, just like the last time. This go-around, the gift is a mini-Bluetooth speaker.

And of course, they'll be the first to experience the exhilaration of being behind the wheel of one of the last true lightweight, driver-focused sports cars available today."
