I met Don in 1997. His E/GT Gullwing had been vandalized at a show and he was told it would have to be repainted. Not an inexpensive proposition since it had hand applied graphics with gold leaf. The short of it was I saved the paint and he was very happy. Next was the damaged running board tool box on the 26 K Type. His garage was nothing short of amazing. If I asked for a tool or something he would open a cabinet and there it was. He had paint that I mixed to match perfectly. Then came the trunk lid on the 35 500S. He gave me tips on how to keep my 61 220b going. Don liked going for rides in it. I was honored since a fuel pump in one of his Benzes cost more than my car was worth. He liked IHOP for lunch. His son Tony was a very knowledgeable person to learn from too. I learned about the 300 fuel injection system and how to rebuild the carb on the 500S by watching him. I was fortunate to know him for that short time until he passed away.
