BMW M2 Revealed Alongside its Spiritual Successor in Geneva

The new BMW M2 is revealed at the Geneva International Auto Show alongside its spiritual successor, the BMW 2002. Why is M2 the biggest crowd-pleaser?

BMW brought the old and the new to the 2016 Geneva International Auto Show. The new was the BMW M2 Coupe, the old was the BMW 2002. BMW will celebrate 100 years since they started making cars in a few days in Munich and they took a look back in Geneva. It was the stage for showing just how far the Bavarian automaker has come in those 100 years.

At the opening ceremonies and press conference for BMW, Ian Robertson, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Sales and Marketing BMW, entered with the BMW M2 and a BMW 2002 turbo. Robertson presented the BMW M2 as well as the new M Performance Parts for the compact coupe, which will begin being sold in April 2016.

BMW presented the new M760Li xDrive, a Special Edition BMW i8 Protonic Red Edition and BMW 740e models at the show. They brought other previous generation models to show the progression in their evolution. But it was the new M2 performance coupe that was the biggest crowd-pleaser BMW had in store for the Geneva Motor Show. It’s no wonder since the BMW M2 is the most highly-anticipated new M model to come out of BMW M GmbH in quite a few years.

You know all vitals on the 2016 BMW M2 so we won’t cover them again here. The M2 is the spiritual successor of the BMW 2002 Turbo and shares common themes, styles and elements of the 2002. It’s a sequel "in spirit.” The M2 comes with good genes and is one of the best new cars from BMW in years. It will likely be more popular than the classic BMW 1 Series M Coupe that ’s worth more today than when it was new.
