GM India Hits 100,000 in Sales

GM’s growing popularity in India is demonstrated by its hitting 100,000 in sales a month ahead of projection thanks to the appeal of its small Chevrolets like the Spark.

GM India announced today that it has hit the milestone of 100,000 sales in 11 months of 2010. It wishes it enjoyed similar success domestically as it has registered a growth of more than 63% from January to November when compared to the same period in 2009 when it sold 61,321 vehicles. GM India produces the Chevrolet Captiva, Chevrolet Optra, Chevrolet Cruze, Chevrolet Aveo, Chevrolet Aveo U-VA, Chevrolet Spark, Chevrolet Beat and Chevrolet Tavera for sale in India.

India is obviously an important market for any manufacturer. It has a population of approximately 1.1 billion, the second largest after China, which also is a prime target of automakers from around the world.

Chevrolet has been in India for seven years and has made major investments in the country. It has commissioned a power train facility in Talegaon. It is the first flexi-engine plant for General Motors in the world that makes both gas and diesel engines together. The company has also inaugurated the LNG facility at its factory at Halol for supply of gas to its car manufacturing plant and has also ramped up production by adding second shifts at Halol and Talegaon plants to meet the increased demand of its products.
