Why Was the 2017 Mazda CX-3 Named Best Crossover by a Chicago Publication?
Why does the new Mazda CX-3 subcompact crossover seem to be winning over so many clients in northern urban areas? This week it is the Chicago News that has selected the CX-3 as its pick as the Best Crossover of the Year. That is a pretty big compliment considering the Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5, Toyota Highlander, and Range Rover Evoque are not exactly slouches.
The publication commented on the CX-3 in its review, saying, "It's widely held that the Mazda CX-5 is the standard among small CUV's in the marketplace. Mazda, trying to capitalize on that success, has now offered us an even smaller version with the same ingredients, and by all accounts, it should be a smashing success."
The first clue to the Mazda CX-3's success is in that statement. It's a Mazda first and a crossover second. The driver-first attributes of the Mazda line are what wins over journalists who try the CX-3, or any Mazda model. We first alluded to this back when Car and Driver picked the CX-3 as its top choice. The folks at CD are all about performance and the CX-3 trounced the field.
However, the same attributes that make the CX-3 a great sporty vehicle also make it safe. We had a chance to sneak the CX-3 onto a race track at an event intended for track-day cars and we found that it had excellent emergency maneuverability.
Look for the Mazda CX-3 to take home more awards in the coming years.
