Polestar Becomes Electrified! Becomes A Standalone Brand
Volvo announced that Polestar would become its own standalone brand focusing on performance-oriented electric vehicles. The upcoming models will share “technological and engineering” aspects with Volvo cars, though they will be sold under the Polestar nameplate. Those worried about Polestar stepping away from producing high-performance Volvos will be happy to hear the brand will continue to offer upgrades via the new Polestar Engineered label.
“Polestar will be a credible competitor in the emerging global market for high performance electrified cars. With Polestar, we are able to offer electrified cars to the world’s most demanding, progressive drivers in all market segments,” said Håkan Samuelsson, president and chief executive of Volvo Cars in a statement.
Polestar will talk about future plans later this fall.
As we reported last week, Polestar is planning to build out a range of electric vehicle using Volvo's SPA (Scalable Product Architecture) and CMA (Compact Modular Architecture) platforms. The first model is said to be using SPA and could be shown as early as this fall.
