New Nissan LEAF Boasts 150 Mile Range, Will Cost You Less Than Tesla Model 3
If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is, but not in the case of the new LEAF. The new 2018 Nissan LEAF is here boasting a longer range, it comes with new styling and technology, and it costs less than the current 2017 model.
Nissan says the new LEAF will keep you connected and it will make you more confident with the longer range and will give you more enjoyment with its improved acceleration. Here’s an overview of what’s coming.
The new 2018 Nissan LEAF is coming with a 40 percent range increase to 150 miles, gets a 37 percent power increase (147 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque), comes with the ProPILOT Assist, ePedal one pedal driving, and costs less ($29,990) coming in at $690 below the current 2017 LEAF starting MSRP.
Two new technologies
Nissan introduces two new intelligent driving technologies for North American consumers. ProPILOT Assist driver assistance technology, used during single-lane highway driving, helps makes a journey easier, less stressful and more relaxing.
The second-generation LEAF also features e-Pedal technology. The reactiveness of e-Pedal is designed to maximize driving pleasure. Nissan says it lets drivers start, accelerate, decelerate and stop by increasing or decreasing the pressure applied to the accelerator. When the accelerator is fully released, regenerative and friction brakes are applied automatically, bringing the LEAF to a complete stop. The car holds its position, even on steep uphill slopes, until the accelerator is pressed again.
The new LEAF will use a 40kWh Li-ion battery with a charging time (normal charging) 16 hours (3kW), 8 hours (6kW) and a charging time from alert to 80 percent (quick charging) in 40 minutes.
Outside it gets new exterior styling including Nissan’s signature boomerang-shaped lamps and V-Motion flow in the front. The flash-surface grille in clear blue and the rear bumper's blue molding keep its identity as a Nissan EV. Inside, LEAF gets completely “driver-focused” cabin featuring a front panel in the form of a "gliding wing.”
Nissan also announced, they will offer a higher power, longer range version at a higher price in model year 2019. The new 2018 Nissan LEAF ($29,990 USD) will arrive in U.S. and European showrooms in early 2018.
