I've had ongoing problems of this type with the "red arrow" GPS locator on my screen of my 2014 Model S. These started after the 4 year warranty was finished. I was advised by Tesla about 3 years ago to change the screen, and paid for this, but the problem with the stuck arrow worsened in the last year. I had the problem re-assessed about a month ago, and Tesla told me I needed a new MCU unit, and this would give me other benefits. I had this repair/upgrade done for a cost of well over C$2000. In noted an improvement in response speed including booting up for starting. However, since the repair, I noted periodic bouts of satisfactory performance, and frequent trips with bouts of poor performance with the arrow slowly deviating from the correct position on the map. One recent trip showed me driving up the middle of a large river channel. It was as though the position arrow was relying solely in the gyroscope, with no assistance from the GPS. Remarkably, on a long, multi-day journey in hot conditions, I noted that good performance of the red arrow on the map correlated with times of the day when the air temperature was below about 22C, and bad performance when the air temperature was above about 27C.
