The all-new 2019 Ascent 3-Row Crossover is Subaru’s new flagship vehicle, and was uncovered tonight in Los Angeles. Tom Doll, CEO, Subaru of America, introduced the new Ascent with the help of the Barkley dog family as they piled out as the new 3-Row crossover was driven on stage.
Subaru will build the Ascent on its new Global Platform and it will be powered by a new 2.4-liter twin-scroll turbocharged four-cylinder boxer engine producing 260hp and 277 lb. ft of torque. The Ascent 2.4-liter twin turbo four cylinder is their new-generation boxer engine developed specifically for this vehicle and likely won’t power any of their other models.
Other features will include standard EyeSight driver assist technology, standard X-Mode and 8.7 inches of ground clearance, and the Ascent comes with 5000 lb. towing capacity. It will come with 72.6 cubic feet of cargo carrying ability, 4G LTE Wi-Fi, 8 available USB ports, heated and ventilated front seats, rear-seat climate control and 2nd and 3rd row sunshades.
The new 2019 Subaru Ascent will come in four trim levels for North American families. Standard model; Premium models with power rear gate, Keyless Access W/ Push button start, Automatic Dimming mirror, Reverse Braking, 20-inch wheels, Panorama Moonroof and Navigation with 8-inch touch screen. The Limited models will upgrade with a Harmon/Kardon premium audio system plus Panorama Moonroof and Navigation with touch screen. Subaru will also offer the Ascent in a top-of -the-line Touring trim with upgraded interior featuring “Saddle Brown" leather.
Ascent will compare favorably in size to Ford Explorer, Honda Pilot, and even the Chevy Tahoe. The new Ascent will be built at the Subaru Indiana Automotive (SIA) plant in Lafayette, Indiana alongside, Outback, Legacy and Impreza models.
Subaru will release limited edition models to commemorate its 50th anniversary next year. Each vehicle in the 2019 Subaru line-up, including the Ascent, will offer a 50th anniversary edition. The editions will feature a new, common color which will be based on a high-level trim and will come with special badging. The all-new 2019 Subaru Ascent will start in the low $30,000 price range and will be on sale in early summer 2018.
