Two observations
1) Muscle cars began as auto manufacturers wanted to sell cars to the youth market in the '60s, and installed the largest engine they could into the cheapest body of the line, which meant stunning 1/4 mile drag racing performance for a modest investment. Handling other than in a straight line was low on the priority list.
2) The Corvette is not a muscle car per se, especially in its C7 version. It is a world class sports car that in its C7 version has been designed from the ground up for handling. It was designed to have 455+ HP, making it stunningly fast in a straight line as well. Mustangs and Camaros (technically "pony cars") better represent the muscle car genre as cars with high HP engines that have been modified to have acceptable handling through their product lives.
Motor magazines test Mustangs and Camaros against each other and the Challenger. When the Corvette is tested, it is run against Porsche 911s and Ferraris.
