Wow Peter, I am surprised
Wow Peter, I am surprised that you like the Tesla that much. You regularly gush about the Prius and I thought that you might be biased, but it was a good comparison. On the Prius side, I believe that Toyota's long term plan is to move the Prius line into being pure EVs in the next few years. They added a hybrid Corolla this year, which will start to take some of the entry level customers from the Prius. I am surprised that Toyota has not offered a BEV version of one of their Lexus models to more squarely compete against Tesla. One big point for Tesla (that may not be important to you) is the Tesla model's acceleration. Even more than luxury, this is what mostly separates the Tesla's from their economy car competition for me. Toyota's strength now compared to most other big automakers is that they have been adding hybrids to their whole model line up. And I believe that they will soon release BEV models, starting with the Prius family. Tesla's biggest advantage is that they are 100% committed to EVs, so they are not competing with their EV models against the larger selling, more profitable, gas vehicle based products from their company, and they don't have dealers that quietly fight against EVs.
