The Corvette Plant Is Now Building 2020 C8 Corvette Stingrays For Public Sales
All the 2020 Corvettes we have seen from the reveal, and special events like Corvettes at Carlisle have all had an “EX’ at the end of the VIN. The “EX” cars are considered Experimental and are labeled with the “EX” on the VIN. I was recently told at Corvettes at Carlisle that these cars can’t be sold to the public and will be crushed (destroyed) once all the testing is completed due to safety implications.
Basically, if any part from an EX car found its way into a production model and that particular part failed during a crash it would fall back onto GM. To protect themselves these cars, and the parts from them, can not be sold even after the testing is complete.
When Will We See The Production 2020 Corvettes In The Wild?
Soon. Very soon. Tadge Juechter recently said, while at Corvettes at Carlisle, that we would see these cars in the non EX VIN version soon for reviewers and bloggers. They will be getting these cars earlier than the average person to put it through its paces and get reviews out for us average Joes.
These cars sent out to the reviewers will be an actual production car so that any review or problem they have with it would be the exact car we get once production starts for the actual saleable cars.
The production for the C8 Corvette is set to start in December at some point. The C8 Corvettes that we have seen at the National Corvette Museum without the EX VIN designation are part of GM’s Captured Test Fleet. Engineers and others on the team will drive and test these cars and once they are done testing, they will be cleaned up and sold to dealers at auction sometime in the next year.
The 2020 C8 Corvettes are being assembled in the plant in limited quantities right now to supply them to the engineers and other reviewers but the actual production will ramp up in the month of December. The C8 Corvette is very close to being available for us and it's a very exciting time. The new Corvette has very impressive performance and has shocked the Corvette community thus far. I am very excited myself to see what we end up getting and it's coming very soon.
