Pricing Revealed for 2020 Toyota Highlander and It May Blow Your Mind
Are you ready for the redesigned 4th generation of 2020 Toyota Highlander? New models should be delivered to dealerships sometime this month. Our own Torque News reporter John Goreham wrote an informative piece yesterday on 2020 Highander Hybrid highlights that I recommend. Today I will lay out Toyota’s pricing plan for all 2020 Toyota Highlander models – both gasoline and hybrid.
2020 Highlander trim levels explained
Toyota has streamlined and simplified the grade (trim level) hierarchy for the 2020 Highlander, which should make it easier this model year for consumers to pick the best one for them and their families.
First off, there are 5 gas-powered and 4 hybrid trim levels of Highlanders. In gas, you can choose from L, LE, XLE, Limited and Platinum. Hybrid allows you to pick from LE, XLE, Limited and Platinum.
Each one of these levels for gas and hybrid is offered in both front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD). This versatility will help all drivers, whether they are interested in traction for all weather conditions or better gas mileage.
Here is a good way to look at grade levels from 2019 to the all-new 2020. The L model is similar to last year’s LE V6 model. LE is similar to 2019’s LE Plus model. XLE, Limited and Platinum carry over. The SE trim level has been eliminated for 2020 Highlander.

Pricing plan for 2020 Highlander
I noticed several interesting things about 2020 Toyota Highlander pricing – both for gas and hybrids. First off, I think we all know in the car business that any time a vehicle is redesigned, pricing normally increases a pretty significant amount. This is not the case with Highlander.
My pricing observations:
- XLE FWD – Pricing for the ever-popular XLE model actually decreased from 2019. It dipped from $39,720 in 2019 to $39,600 in 2020. The ability to stay steady in pricing here should spike XLE Highlander sales.
- LE FWD – This pricing only went up $40 from last year. This is big news folks.
- The jump from front-wheel drive to all-wheel drive is a reasonable $1,600 increase for the L, LE and XLE grades. Price increases $1,950 when you switch from Limited FWD to AWD and Platinum FWD to AWD. This seems very fair and makes it practical on a budget to get that all-wheel drive option if you need it.
- Hybrids. If you have thought about buying a Highlander Hybrid in the past, you may want to look even closer at the 2020 Highlander Hybrid options. Pricing only increases $1,400 from gas to a hybrid. There was a time when there was a $5,000 premium to buy a Highlander Hybrid over its gasoline equivalent. The gasoline savings plus an incredibly modest price bump all point toward hybrids being the way to go, provided it fits your budget.
