I refer to my 2017 Outback as an electric vehicle, as it's always on the battery charger. This makes it problematic to park for a few days without an AC source. For me, it's not only an open liftgate but any door that is ajar will do. So much for the "Battery drainage prevention function". My wife's 2007 Ford Focus is less sophisticated but more reliable.
