The attorneys did the leg work, contacted affected owners, researched the issue and the law, wrote and submitted briefs, negotiated with Subaru, spent time in court, all while paying all the expenses before reaching a settlement and getting a cent from Subaru. And it was an effort for which there was no guarantee of success.
Of course, you could have opted out of the class action and sued on your own.
