Moose test is just a nick name. The official name is Undanmanöverprov, or rather generic evasive manoeuvre test. It isn't about the car's ability to avoid large animals, but to avoid any surprise obstacles, including fallen bike riders and children.

The nick name is because you do not want to hit a moose with a car. These are very large animals. Just hitting the brakes means it will go over the hood, and it has the mass to go through the windshield.

Auto brake systems have helped out in many cases, but they don't see everything. Cases where it happens with a Tesla are popular headlines, but those happen will all makes.
