The success of both the Model
The success of both the Model Y and the Mach-E will help one another. Both being BEV crossovers makes it obvious to try and call one a winner. But the reality is that gas powered crossovers are their real competition. The Model Y has been very successful in the U.S. and sales will be expanding exponentially now that China is building them for the Asian market, and later this year upgraded German models will support expanded sales in Europe. For 2020 Tesla sold 84K U.S. built Model Ys, which (along with strong Model 3 sales) has driven EV market expansion. The Mach-E has been reviewed well, and they are now shipping early models. Like VW's upcoming ID.4 crossover, and the Nissan Ariya, the Mach-E will benefit from having a lower price than the Model Y, and like the others it will qualify for the full $7,500 federal subsidies, and well as additional state and local subsidies for EVs. So the Mach-E has a price advantage, but it will also be sold and serviced by nationwide Ford dealers. Later this year the Mach-E GT will arrive, with some serious performance. And with each of these new, compelling EVs models released in the U.S. it gives buyers more new car options to compete against top gas-powered crossovers like the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CRV.
