Wow: Details Falling into Place for Next-Gen 2022 Toyota Tundra

Everything we know so far about 2022 Tundra. We are in for big surprises.

I feel a little giddy right now as I write this story. You see, I am detailing everything there currently is to know about next-gen Tundra. It is an exciting time because we all want to know as much as possible.

The 2022 Toyota Tundra.

And this “everything” I speak of really is not a lot at all. Toyota is not ready to release full details to the public. Being one of the most close-to-the-vest, hold your cards tightly, do not look behind the curtain corporations in the world keeps things mysterious that way.

However, information has been circulating throughout Toyota social media circles for weeks and months now. We are starting to build a clearer picture of what we will see with 2022 Tundra.

Here is what we think we know so far (in no specific order):

More aggressive exterior styling

Toyota Tundra will have an even tougher stance for 2022. Spy photos taken during Tundra testing show a rugged and prominent front end. Although it looks similar to the current generation, the terms “bold” and “beefier” come to mind.

A Longer Tundra CrewMax

Camouflaged next-gen Tundra trucks have been spotted while test driving. We can clearly see four full doors like current Tundra CrewMax, but we see a longer bed. Perhaps a 6 ½ foot bed?

Toyota Tundra LED lighting

I have no reason to think this, but it would not surprise me to see standard LED headlights and daytime running lights on every 2022 Toyota Tundra trim level.

This would follow the precedent set by 2021 4Runner in adding brighter and more modern lighting to the full lineup.

Bird’s Eye view camera

We knew there would be more technology and safety systems than ever before, but there have been visual signs in photos that we may see the Toyota Bird’s Eye View Camera for 2022 Tundra.

This gives drivers a full 360-degree view of their Tundra in front of, along the sides of, behind, and overhead. It would not surprise me to see a setup like Toyota Tacoma with its Multi-Terrain Monitor.

I would want this tech for any full-size truck. Especially in parking lots, at boat launches, and along the trails.

Coil Spring Rear Suspension

Toyota Tundra appears to be swapping out its current leaf spring suspension for coil spring rear suspension. There are a couple generally accepted benefits to this type of vehicle suspension.

First, coil spring provides a smoother ride. This is designed to be flexible and absorb more impact. Expect it to improve ride comfort on even the bumpiest of roads.

Also, coil springs are made to support a great amount of weight. This could help boost current Toyota Tundra towing specs.

I'll Take "Lug Nuts" for $600 Please

Expect to see 6 lug nuts on each 2022 Tundra wheel for this upcoming generation. Current Tundras come standard with 5 lugs.

Evolving into this 6-lug design should improve both payload and towing capacity. 2021 Tundra currently comes with a 10,200-pound maximum tow capacity.

I would be shocked if this figure does not increase tow ratings dramatically.

Different 2022 Tundra Grille Designs

Look for Toyota to incorporate multiple front grille patterns and designs into its various trim levels.

I would expect to see the Toyota signature grille on at least one 2022 Tundra grade.

Twin Turbo Tundra Engine

There have been no rumors of Toyota sticking with its trusted 5.7-liter V8 engine. That might be gone for good.

We should plan on seeing something like a 3.5-liter twin turbo V6 engine.

A Tundra Hybrid is expected as well. Look for gasoline engine Tundra first followed by Tundra Hybrid a few months later.

New Tundra Transmission

Out with the old and in with the new.

Gone is the 6-speed automatic transmission. The most prevalent talk at the Toyota water cooler is the launch of a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Of course, we could see an 8-speed automatic transmission instead.

Time will tell. Sooner than later, we hope.

Time for your Toyota Tundra comments

What details and specs are you most looking forward to with 2022 Tundra?

Are there any specifications you are hoping to see for sure?

Also, what features do you hope will remain from current 2021 Tundra?

Thanks for reading everyone. See you next story.
