You are on the Right-Track; but also need to consider the Forces applied to the WindShield by a "soft" body design that transferes movement from the Strut-Towers, into the FireWall, and ALSO into the lower area of the WindShield !
Windshields SHOULD never be a part of teh Structural Integrity of the Body Strength; unless the Designers want to also hav a LOT MORE CRACKED WINDSHIELDS !!!!
Of course, the Lawyer "profession" are always glad to accept any lesser claim, when they are covering-up for a MAJOR DESIGN STRUCTURAL PROBLEM !
Windshields can be shipped around the World in Boxes; whole-Frame-Replacements .... not so cheaply or POSSIBLE !!!! It is CHEAPER to replace aWIndshield ; thant to replace a WHOLE CAR (Body ... !) !!!
