When will Toyota redesign its beloved 4Runner? And what will it look like when it does get an overhaul?

These are two very timely and appropriate questions to ask. Toyota 4Runner is most definitely due for a redesign, as it has not received one since the 2010 4Runner. That is 11 years running.

Certainly not the longest Toyota stretch without a new body style. Look at Tundra. It had been since 2007 without a major design change. Fans are excited to see the completely revamped 2022 Tundra soon.

That brings us to 4Runner and its “near future” plans.

2022 Toyota 4Runner

It is only natural to wonder what is coming next for our fan-favorite Toyota 4Runner. After all, this is one of the last true SUVs left on the planet. Its body-on-frame design allows it to withstand harsh terrain and difficult obstacles. One of the toughest vehicles around.

However, we all know it is time for a change soon. The problem is we do not know when. So many emotions to feel here.

Toyota is being suspiciously tight-lipped about plans for upcoming Toyota 4Runner and Toyota Tacoma. We do not know when they are scheduled for a redesign. They are also radio silent on even one single specification for next-gen 2022 Tundra.

Because of this, we are left to wonder on our own.

This is where things get interesting. I have heard three different “4Runner redesign model years” given by multiple sources in the past two months.

Another automotive manufacturer revealed to me they know 4Runner will be redesigned for 2025 model year. A couple different people in circles that would know have told me that is not true at all. That we will see a brand new 2023 Toyota 4Runner.

But then, I recently heard from two Toyota sources they have been told to expect a 6th generation 4Runner for 2022 model year.

Are you as confused as I am now?

Next-gen 2022 4Runner – could it be true?

It would be a solid strategy for Toyota to launch two much-anticipated next-gens at the same time. Talk about building the hype. Strong hype. To have an all-new Toyota Tundra and 4Runner simultaneously would be practically mind-blowing if you are a Toyota truck and SUV lover.

The fact that Toyota has not yet revealed even one single detail about a new 4Runner would not necessarily disqualify this speculation from proving to be true. Toyota has still not said a peep about next-gen 2022 Tundra, and it should be here by end of this calendar year. Coming up fast.

Look at history and precedent. Toyota did not unveil its 5th generation 2010 4Runner until September of 2009. Not much of a window there.

I could also make an argument against that being true now, though, by saying no news may indeed mean no news. 2022 Toyota 4Runner could be a carryover from 2021.

Extremely possible. In fact, it may be the most possible scenario.
