Having just come off a 24 hour test drive of the Mach E (Premium AWD) and having test driven the ID.4 twice, our choice is the ID.4. The Mustang doesn’t have a roof rack or a hitch and I cannot fit my bikes in the frunk. The ID.4 also has a bigger, more usable Cargo area which again is more important than a frunk. And finally, my wife’s first words getting in the Mach E was to notice how flimsy the door closing sound is, as well as the interior door handles seem to pull away from the door when you close it (not to mention the door opening button outside that didn’t always work the first try and the awkward lever releases inside are hard to reach if you have long arms and will likely be a crumb magnet if you have kids). But the biggest problem was how grabby the brakes were on the Mach E - it was very hard to stop smoothly and the transition from regen to mechanical had a noticeable effect. The ID.4 just is solid and smooth in the way it’s built (the Mach E had foam rubber sticking out under the rear spoiler, for instance) and the way drives. A lot less spunky than the Mustang, but then there’s an AWD ID.4 coming this fall that should feel much closer in performance to the Mach E. But the biggest problem with the Mach E? The cross traffic detection didn’t work … ever.
