The 10 Best New Cars For Road Trips - Subaru Outback Is Now 4th On The List
Which are the best new cars and SUVs for a road trip? This Memorial Day weekend and summer, many people will hit the road, and Kelly Blue Book (KBB) just released its 10 Best Road Trip Cars of 2021. The American Automobile Association (AAA) estimates 34 million people will take to the road this weekend, compared with last year's 23 million (their lowest on record since 2000).
The KBB report says the newly redesigned 2021 Subaru Outback is one of the 10-Best road trip vehicles you can buy right now to take a trip this summer.

What makes Outback the 4th best vehicle on the list?
KBB says the 2021 Subaru Outback is the “Swiss Army Knife of vehicles.” They list five reasons why it's one of the top five models for a road trip. "Outback is better than ever, delivering excellent on-road comfort, good fuel economy, plenty of punch, and serious off-road or severe weather capability."
They also pick the 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness sub-brand trim as a good pick when it arrives this summer. "It's more off-road oriented with a lift kit, chunky tires, and cool styling accents for well under $40,000," says KBB.

The 10-Best road trip vehicles of 2021, according to KBB in order of the best models, are the Toyota Sienna, Kia Telluride, Honda Odyssey. Subaru Outback, Jeep Grand Cherokee L, Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, Volvo V90, RAM 1500 TRX, Hyundai Elantra, and Mazda MX-5 Miata.
What is the fuel mileage of the 2021 Subaru Outback?
With gas prices rising, good fuel economy is important to road warriors. The EPA fuel mileage rating of the 2021 Outback XT 2.4-liter turbo is 23/30 city/highway mpg and 26 combined mpg. The estimated fuel economy of the standard 2.5-liter engine is 26/33 mpg city/highway and 29 combined mpg.

The Outback's overall 29 mpg/city 26 / highway 33 mpg beats the Toyota Highlander overall 22 mpg/city 14 / highway 32 mpg, Lexus RX overall 22 mpg/city 14 / highway 31 mpg, Kia Sorento overall 25 mpg/city 17 / highway 34 mpg, Kia Telluride overall 21 mpg/city 14 / highway 30 mpg, Hyundai Palisade overall 21 mpg/city 15 / highway 29 mpg, and Mazda CX-9 overall 22 mpg/city 15 / highway 32 mpg.
What is the price of the 2021 Subaru Outback?
The 2021 Outback comes in seven trim levels, base $27,845, Premium ($30,095), Limited ($34,645), Onyx Edition XT ($36,195), Limited XT ($38,545), Touring ($39,045), and Touring XT ($40,995). Pricing includes $1,050 destination.
