The New 2022 Subaru Crosstrek Preview - What’s Next For Customers
Why hasn't Subaru of America announced the 2022 Crosstrek model changes? New Crosstrek models should be arriving at retailers this summer, but where are the new all-wheel-drive vehicles? The 2022 Subaru Outback, Ascent, Impreza, and BRZ model changes have been released, but why is Subaru slow to reveal the recent 2022 Crosstrek subcompact SUV model changes?
It's due to the global microchip shortage affecting all automakers. The 2022 Crosstrek, in the fifth year of its model cycle, will receive few changes as the 2022 Impreza announced earlier by SOA.
SOA recently announced the 2022 Subaru Impreza with no upgrades, and it reveals Subaru Corporation's intentions to launch the next-generation 2023 Crosstrek and Impreza together. The Impreza should have had its next-generation model change in 2022, but it will now come for the 2023 model year.
What upgrades will the 2022 Crosstrek get?
Like the Impreza, Subaru will bring the 2022 Crosstrek with few changes, if any, and possibly a slight price increase. There could be minor changes with a new exterior color and a shuffling of option packages.
Why is Subaru running out of new Crosstrek models to sell?
Subaru was hit hard by the recent plant shutdowns in Japan, where the Crosstrek is manufactured. Now, the popular Crosstrek small SUV is wholly or nearly sold out in some regions.
We checked with a large Subaru retailer near Denver, and a source told us customers are now buying new Crosstrek SUVs that are still in transit from Japan because they have run out of new models to sell.
The 2021 Subaru Crosstrek and all-new Crosstrek Sport and Limited with the 2.5-liter engine upgrade have been a big success for Subaru of America. Customers who want a Sport trim will have to wait until August to get one.
When can customers buy a 2022 Subaru Crosstrek?
Subaru should announce the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek this summer, and it will likely arrive in late summer or early fall because of production slowdowns. There will be minor 2022 Crosstrek changes, and the 2023 Crosstrek will be the model to watch when the subcompact SUV gets a complete redesign.
Customers who want a 2022 Crosstrek will have to wait as Subaru Corporation has delayed production due to plant closures and global microchip shortages. The new models would usually arrive this summer, but this is far from a typical year. Stay tuned.
