The Prius is all about drive style and terrain. I get a pretty consistent 48mpg on flat roads with not a lot of stop and go. When I'm on hilly roads or driving in the city, it drops a bit. Use the gas pedal lightly, lay off the gas farther to a red light, realize the brakes are just bleeding energy and you can easily see 45-48 mpg.
