4X4 Mag Says Subaru Crosstrek Is Best Crossover Of The Year For Third Time
The newly-refreshed Subaru Crosstrek is a hot model and just finished 2021 with the highest percentage of increase of all Subaru’s SUVs. The popular subcompact SUV just picked up its third Crossover Of The Year Award from 4X4 Magazine. Crosstrek also scored the award in 2019 and 2021.
What sets the Crosstrek apart from other small SUVs?
4X4 Magazine, the market leader in automotive off-roading, gives four reasons for Crosstrek’s win. They cite its eye-catching design, true off-road all-wheel-drive capability, class-leading safety, and superior entertainment technology.
Alan Kidd, Editor of 4x4 Magazine, said: “The Crosstrek had already won its class last year, so with a revised model having just been introduced, it’s perhaps not a huge shock that it’s still on top. It’s not the biggest facelift in the world, but it hardly needed to be.”
Crosstrek gets off-pavement upgrades
Subaru upgraded the Crosstrek’s off-road capabilities by bringing a new Sport trim with dual-function X-Mode. The Limited top trim level also gets the off-pavement technology. Both models also come with a new 2.5-liter Boxer engine with 30 more horsepower than the standard 2.0-liter Boxer engine.
Deep Snow/Mud Mode
If you travel over a high mountain pass for snowboarding at a local ski resort, you can encounter blizzard conditions and wet, heavy, deep snow. Dual-function X-Mode brings Crosstrek a deep snow mode for the first time. This setting will get you to your destination safely.
How does Crosstrek’s dual-function X-Mode work? The system allows a wheel to spin to help in potentially dangerous and slick conditions. When faced with deep snow conditions, selecting this setting allows some wheel spin, when required, to prevent the vehicle from becoming stuck.
A knob on Crosstrek’s console controls dual-function X-Mode, allowing you to switch from Snow and Dirt mode to the new Deep Snow and Deep Mud Mode. This mode enables the compact SUV to maintain momentum when you get off the beaten path in more extreme deep snow and mud situations.
The 2021 Subaru Crosstrek also comes with 8.7-inches of ground clearance, allowing the compact SUV to quickly power through deep snow.
When does the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek arrive in the U.S.? The 2022 Subaru Crosstrek and Crosstrek Hybrid are carryovers with no changes and will begin arriving at Subaru showrooms in the first quarter of 2022. There is no advantage for customers to wait for 2022 models if you find a 2021 model.
What is the price of the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek?
The 2022 Subaru Crosstrek comes in five trim levels for customers. The base trim is priced from $23,570, Premium ($24,720), Sport ($27,920), Limited ($29,420) and Crosstrek Hybrid ($37,895). Prices include destination and delivery fees that increase +$75 ($1,125).
