Some other reasons I think
Some other reasons I think the Crosstrek is outselling a lot of other tiny CUVs:
- Aftermarket support. I can find a winchmount, rear diff-locker, 2" receiver hitch, skids, rockers, a turbo kit, exhaust, high-flow airfilters, AT or MT tires, etc.
- Hauling. The Crosstrek has sturdy roofrails, sturdy aftermarket hitch options, and 1500lb of towing capacity. This means that the Crosstrek has no trouble hauling a family of 4-5 ppl and their stuff, even though it's a tiny 5dr that can top 40MPG at 55-60MPH. Some of the CUV competition doesn't have AWD, sturdy roofrails, or even any tow rating.
- The ride. It's no luxury car, but 3000+ lb can dampen a lot of roughness. The hefty little Crosstrek actually rides pretty decent for as crisp as it feels behind the wheel.
- Character. It has a boxer motor and symmetrical AWD. It's not like every other FWD-based CUV. The little boxers are smooth too, for being 4cyls.
