With in reason a shop should charge for a diagnosis to pinpoint the problem. The minimum charge should be One half hour labor charge. If the customer wants to have the repairs made the ongoing labor rate for the time that was needed to repair the problem plus cost of parts is a reasonable price to be charged. Customer should take into consideration the knowledge of the mechanic and his ability to operate the expensive diagnostic equipment that he needs to perform the repairs correctly.
