This is the time of year when just about every auto manufacturer announces what is new and upcoming for the next model year vehicles.

Sometimes a model is completely redesigned. Other times it might be mildly refreshed – with one or two new features added. Maybe we see new trim levels within a particular model lineup. Perhaps it is entirely unchanged – labeled a carryover in the automotive industry.

And the same is true for 2023 Toyota 4Runner. In this case, it fits into a couple of the above categories.

2023 4Runner Updates

Although one of the toughest vehicles on the planet, many owners and fans would agree that Toyota 4Runner is due a major redesign. New powertrain, new styling, new interior.

But this will not be occurring for the 2023 4Runner model year.

However, Toyota has added Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert as standard equipment on all 2023 4Runner trim levels.

This had previously only been standard on 4Runner SR5 Premium, TRD Off-Road Premium, Limited and TRD Pro. It was available optionally on 4Runner TRD Sport with the Technology Package upgrade.

Now all 4Runner owners will have peace of mind and added protection when changing lanes and when backing up.

Yes, Toyota 4Runner 2023 is not redesigned. Not even refreshed. But these are still important and essential safety features that all 4Runner grades deserve.

2023 4Runner 40th Anniversary Edition

Toyota 4Runner is celebrating its big 40th birthday with a 2023 4Runner 40th Anniversary Edition. It will be based on SR5 Premium and is offered in Barcelona Red Metallic, White, and Midnight Black Metallic.

The biggest eye-catchers here are the 17-inch bronze alloy wheels and totally retro yellow, orange, and red graphics.
Toyota 4Runner 40th Anniversary Edition looks both cool and tough. It takes me back to the early days of Toyota racing.

I literally said when this new edition was announced, “Well, if Toyota didn’t redesign it, this is the next best thing.”

Time for Your Toyota 4Runner Comments

This new 40th Anniversary Edition will be one of those love-hate trims. You will either gravitate to it immediately or decide you do not like it at all.

If you do decide you want one, my suggestion is that you pull the trigger and act quickly with your local dealership. Toyota is only producing 4,040 units (I see what they did there – 4,040 for 40th year) for 2023 4Runner model year.
