I rented three RAV4s earlier this year. I encountered a similar problem you’ve described. The first RAV4 (gas engine) would veer off course while I was holding the wheel steady. It would wander noticeably across the road from side to side as if the car were being caught in a strong crosswind condition. It was unsettling. The car has little mileage on it and showed no visible sign of front end damage nor any tire separation. The next two RAV4s I rented were rock solid on the road. I’d assume the steering anomaly was due to its electric design which may introduce this faulty “disconnect” from road or slop condition in some vehs.

This car is well designed overall and I considered purchasing a hybrid as it was roomy and competitive in its segment being at the top of reviews in its class. The hybrid is rumored to have “rubbery” steering and mushy brakes something that has been reported to occur in hybrid systems.
