We were given the reveal date of May 19th last week, the latest of several teasers designed by Toyota to help us learn some details up until this point.

May 19th is only 12 days away.

So far we have been teased with the i-FORCE MAX engine, new Trailhunter trim level, TRD Pro and FOX suspension system, JBL Flex portable speaker system, LED headlights and taillights and light bar, potentially two new colors, six-speed manual transmission, and Toyota Audio Multimedia.

Most Toyota Tacoma trucks are equipped with the trusty 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 278 horsepower and 265 lb.-ft. torque. This one lasts practically forever and has adequate power.

However, Tacoma fans and enthusiasts seem to be in agreement they would hope for both more power and better gas mileage with this next Tacoma 2024 design.

The question is, how to do that.

Stay with the tried-and-true but underpowered V6, or go with turbo technology?

This is a tough one, and this choice has Toyota Tacoma forums mixed and torn.

Fans Comment on 2024 Toyota Tacoma

I asked the “Toyota Tacoma Enthusiast” Facebook forum (nearly 83,000 members) what their preference would be, and their answers were unsurprisingly scattered on both sides of the argument.

Stay with what has worked for a long time, or go with the more efficient and shinier new toy?

Andrew added. “Turbo 4. V6’s aren’t good at anything, no power, no torque, and no mpgs.”

“V6 turbo duh.” Commented Maxwell.

Tammy and Mike said. “N/A V6 for longevity. Not too sure how long turbos will last and I’m sure it’s very costly to replace.”

Wayne had a good suggestion. “Bring back factory option super chargers.”

“Turbo for sure. Not for the power, for the noises.” Said Jason.
