I tried to buy a Subaru plug-in hybrid Crosstrek. They wanted to put me on a multi-month wait list due to demand and shortages. I didn’t mind waiting for it for a couple of months, but they said they not only couldn’t guaranty that it would be delivered even in 4-5 months, but that they couldn’t give me clarity on a reliable timeframe even after I put money down. So, I was expected to put money down, pay above MSRP and they couldn’t tell me if I’d get my vehicle in 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, or longer? I said “no thanks” and bought a Toyota.

I suspect their lack of demand had more to do with this uncertainty than it did with interest in the vehicle. I have zero interest in all electric. The cost of electricity is going to soar over the coming 3-10 years which will materially change the economics of EVs.
