If you drive a Subaru Outback, Crosstrek, Forester, or Impreza, you didn't buy it because of its status. As I cover all Subaru models, I've found most customers buy a Subaru model for its all-wheel-drive prowess, fuel mileage, affordability, and safety record. 

A new study by Tinting Chicago reveals the most high-status cars today and where Subaru ranks. The results are surprising.  

Tinting Chicago says, "We've seen our fair share of impressive rides throughout our 13 years in business. From flashy paint jobs to the perfect auto tint, we admire every aspect of a vehicle, especially when we have a hand in its eye-catching appearance."

To find out the highest-status cars, they surveyed 2,029 Americans across the nation about the luxury vehicles they see on their roadways. Here are the cars that make people turn their heads the most, how drivers feel about high-status vehicles, Americans' dream cars, and interesting facts about Subaru you probably didn't know.

The high-status luxury cars Americans see the most frequently. 

1. BMW
2. Mercedes-Benz
3. Porsche
4. Tesla
5. Audi
6. Lexus 
7. Jaguar
8. Ferrari
9. Land Rover
10. Bentley

The non-luxury car brands that people think look impressive 

1. Acura and Volvo (tie)
2. Jeep
3. Toyota
4. Volkswagen
5. Buick
6. Chevrolet
7. Mazda
8. Ford 
9. Subaru

Here are five facts I think Subaru customers will find the most interesting. 

1. Subaru ranks as the #9 non-luxury brand, which Americans think is a "high-status" brand. 
2. Subaru is the #9 non-luxury brand with the most luxurious or "high status" vehicle designs and features.
3. 40% of Americans think SUVs and Crossovers, like the Subaru Forester, are considered the most "high-status" car models.
4. Subaru is the #13 dream car brand for Americans. 
5. Americans dream of owning a Subaru more than a Range Rover, Corvette, Cadillac, or Ferrari.

I think these four things are essential for shoppers considering a Subaru vehicle.

1. Subaru Symmetrical all-wheel-drive. Subaru has been producing all-wheel-drive vehicles for over fifty years. It's not an add-on feature like some automakers' vehicles. Every Subaru vehicle comes with it except for the rear-drive BRZ sport coupe. 

2. Fuel mileage. Subaru vehicles are fuel efficient. The EPA released its new 2022 Automotive Trends Data report that details fuel-mileage results and finds Subaru's lineup of the Forester, Outback, Crosstrek, Ascent, and other all-wheel-drive models ranks the best in U.S. automaker's fleets.

3. Subaru affordability. Recently updated data from Kelley Blue Book reveal that the average transaction price (ATP) for a new vehicle was $48,808, and the average transaction price for a new Subaru all-wheel-drive vehicle was $35,888.

4. Subaru's safety record. Although the new IIHS testing criteria are getting more challenging, Subaru still has four models with the highest safety scores.
