The number of recalls seems a bit too crude of a measure. Not all recalls are the same. There is a difference between a dim headlight issue and an engine failure issue. There is also a difference between an issue that has caused fatalities and an issue that has yet to occur but the manufacturer is being precautious. There is also a difference between a manufacturer that does a voluntary recall because they are looking into the best interests of their customers and a manufacturer that is being forced the US Government.
