We own a 2016 AWD XLE Highlander, 3.8 V-6, 6-speed AT, La La Rogue with just over 46,000 miles. It just passed its 8th birthday. It's the most comfortable ride and comes w/lots of safety features. We're on only the second set of tires. We replaced the rear shocks at about 40,000 bc they were leaking quite a bit. That seemed very odd to us. We've never replaced rear shocks on any vehicle we've ever owned. Other than that we keep it maintained and garaged. It gets just under 17-20mpg, city. We haven't taken a long trip in it since it was new. So, we're not sure of the highway mileage.
There are about 40 vehicles I personally owned starting with my prize '67 SS Chev Camaro, 350 V-8, 4 speed. I put a few clutches in it. I couldn't keep my foot out of it. Much simpler cars back then. There were no computers and we're easy to work on. The Highlander, I understand has 47 computer chips. That's just insane to me. We bought the upgraded warranty for the electronics. It wasn't a hard sell after learning the number of chips and the cost to replace them.
