My 2018 Subaru Forester's windshield cracked this July while parked for 3 days under a tree with no evidence of anything causing it. The crack seemed to start in the middle of the lower edge and was growing to the middle of the passenger's view. Temperatures were very moderate and ground was flat. I have photos and windshield replacement receipts.
