We took our clean low…
We took our clean low mileage 8-year-old Subaru outback to the Ocala Florida Subaru dealer to look at a new outback. I explained to the salesperson that we were totally familiar with the car and simply wanted to take a look and have a test drive at which point he went up to his usual routine going over all the features that I already know on a 2024 model that was loaded to the gills with dealer add-on items. We went on an extensive test drive which revealed no surprises and then sat down at his desk to talk about price. I was clear, very clear about what I was willing to pay yet they showed me a price that was at least $10,000 higher than my fair offer for the car. After some further discussion we left the dealership without making a deal and I told my wife in the car that I guarantee they're going to call us. Within 10 minutes I got a frantic call saying they could sell the car for 10,000 less and I told him that he had his chance when I was sitting at the desk. Moral of the story don't believe anything they tell you regarding the car price and prepare to walk away which we did. We did not buy the car electing to keep our perfectly fine 8 year old outback and get more years out of it. In the meantime the Subaru dealer lost a sale.
