"Bricked" is a computer term that just means inert, utterly non-responsive -- like a brick. Since a Tesla is a computer on wheels - in this case, actually getting an operating system update - the term fits perfectly. It's inert, utterly non-responsive: it's bricked. That does not mean it's necessarily beyond repair.
