I owned a 2008 chev duramax. The damn thing started showing codes for ABS faults. I'd have then checked and reset...repeatedly.
Out of frustration I went to Chev dealer in a nearby city., Owen Sound ON.They had the truck for a week while I was working. I called they said they didn't have the truck. It was discovered later in the back lot. It never had been worked on.
Finally a "mechanic" cut wires in the back end and replaced a connector. ( splicing done with push connectors and black tape. The could not fix the ABS...his remedy was to remove the ABS fuse and resort to regular brakes. A GM dealer that can't fix the problem but charged $900 plus dollars for mostly "diagnostics", what crock.
Later that week, while in Sarnia my daughter suggested I take the truck to a GM dealer in Wallaceburg. The friends husband was shop manager and was pretty sure they could fix it. "There's not a problem that can't be fixed."
I did and after leaving the truck on route back to Sarnia I got a call. Problem located and being fixed pick up tomorrow.
The next day the storey unfolded. The mechanic discovered the vehicle was an 07 1/2. The brake detection system was not in the rear wheel as in 08's.
He called the GM trouble line and the tech told him where to look on the front axel. Locating and opening the inspection plate he could see the broken bearing part laying in the bottom on the pan.
The GM tech then said what's going on? I had a call on this same truck a week ago. I told the mechanic where to look and what the problem was.
Of course everyone was hesitant to help in claiming the loss charged by the "less than dealership."but the problem was fixed. Btw ..the shoddy wiring patch had to be taken out and replaced by proper wire and waterproof connections.
I WILL NEVER GO TO THE FIRST DEALER AGAIN. I will bad mouth him at every opportunity I get.
All they had to do was follow GM's trouble shoot and MAYBE they could have fixed it.
