I am a former dealer mechanic and now independent shop technician. I have studied the effects of 10k mile use of oil, and have determined that after following this process all the way up to 100k miles, the risk factor of catastrophic engine failure greatly increases in respect to to 5k mile interval interchanges or less than that respectively. I am 100% on board with the man who is changing it every 3500 miles and would love to purchase any vehicle he owns if he ever plans to sell it.
