It's not just the Lightning…
It's not just the Lightning that has the failure to support issues. We had the same lack of attention to detail with both our Fusion Energi and CMax. Multiple requests for support seriously soured a relationship I've had with Ford since 1984.
The OTAR updates sometimes came close to bricking the cars, and the Energi ate starting batteries at the rate of one every 2.5 years.
Dealerships , well the ones locally, didn't really help. Their Hybrid and EV service departments vanished soon after Ford dropped its mandatory dealer compliance requirements, and we ended up taking both cars to an EV shop 30 miles away, which was able to fix each problem with absolute minimal fuss. HOWEVER, Ford took a very dim view on outside vendors, and in some cases within the Fusion community, would threaten owners who bypassed their support structure.
I really hope the Lightning owners don't have to go through the same thing. The costs of those vehicles is staggering. In return for that huge purchase, they shouldn't be short changed on ability simple because Ford doesn't have its defecation in sequence, and doesn't seem to care about getting well.
