I Waited 3 Years For My Tesla Cybertruck, After One Year, The Pros, Just About Everything On the Truck, Cons, Wiper Washer Smears, and the Cover Leaks

There's not much that Michael doesn't like about his Tesla Cybertruck. However, there are a few problems with the truck. They are a common issue with the electric truck. Here is what's wrong and what Cybertruck owners need to know to fix them.

"I love my one-year-old Cybertruck, but there are two things wrong with it."

Michael Brescia shares that with other Tesla Cybertruck owners on the Tesla Cybertruck Owners Facebook page. He says that, for the most part, everything about his electric truck is great, but there are two issues he doesn't like.

Picture yourself buying a new 2024 Tesla Cybertruck. You heard about the truck long before it reached production, read everything you could about it, couldn't wait to get one, and then waited another year after you put your order in.

It's not your first Tesla. You also own a 2024 Tesla Model Y Performance, known for its versatility and speed. In addition to that, you own a Chevrolet Corvette C8 Stingray with the Z51 performance package and HTC (convertible)—your dream car, known for its sleek design and exhilarating performance.

However, after you purchase the Cybertruck, you like it so much that the Corvette and Model Y sit in the garage 95% of the time. You've owned the truck for one year, and it's your best vehicle.

I know. Are you thinking what I'm thinking? I wish I was Michael and had those three vehicles. Which one would you drive? Tough choice.

Here is what Michael says,

"I waited 3 years for my Tesla Cybertruck (CT). June will be one year of ownership. I have a 2024 Model Y Performance and a 2022 Corvette C8 Z51 HTC. 95% of the time, I drive my CT. The Pros. Just about everything on the truck. Cons. The wiper washer smears, and the cover leaks."

Now imagine owning the Cybertruck for one year, and one problem is that the windshield wiper leaves streaks. It doesn't clean the windshield like it should. That's a frustration that almost every car or truck owner has experienced.

The only other issue is the cover on the back leaks a small amount of water in when it rains or when you wash the truck in your driveway—everything else about the truck you love.

Many Cybertruck owners have shared similar experiences, and here's what they've discovered.

Wiper Performance Issues

Many owners on the Cybertruck Owners Club page say they have the same wiper performance issue with their CT.

One owner says, Poor wiper performance here, too. The sprayers are a narrow stream instead of a spread-out pattern. Leaves tons of uncleaned windshield.

Another explains, I am experiencing the same issue, weak wiper fluid flow that leaves streaks. As the previous poster mentioned, I would like to see a redesigned blade that sprays a fan pattern a couple of inches ahead of the blade so the fluid can wet the windshield

I would also like the nozzles to spray on the upstroke; that way, the fluid is pushed to the windshield's edge, where the air's force can push it over the top of the windshield. Having it sit on the bottom of the windshield doesn't help much because it eventually starts flowing up the windshield.

Sure, there will be a dry wipe, but in the end, it would do a better job cleaning the windshield and allowing the fluid to flow off without obscuring the view. When Elon said the wiper would be a big challenge, they missed the mark, and a redesign is in order.

The Next Morning, Something Happened

I jumped in the beast this morning and ran the washer to clean the crud off the windshield from a rainy drive last night, and much to my surprise, the washer dispensed the fluid in a fan shape on the upstroke. I saw several posts about the Smurf goo added from the factory, so I tried to siphon as much as possible from the vessel before refilling it. Maybe I ran through enough fluid that the goo from the factory is gone, but it seems to work much better now.

It functions correctly, but there is always an area in the middle of the glass that doesn't make contact with the blade. The Service Center said it's normal until they change and fix the blade. Is this how everyone else's wipers operate?

I just had my service appointment on 1/21/25; this is the second time my windshield wiper blade has been replaced. I spoke to the service tech, who said that the issues have been resolved, so any of you who have a problem should make an appointment to replace it.

The Cybertruck Cover Leaks

Michael's other issue is that the cover leaks. This is another common problem for Cybertruck.

One comment on the Tesla Owners Motor Club says,

"I'm curious how much water others are getting in the bed of their truck during rain. Mine was initially pretty well sealed from the factory, but now I see one leak path near the top/front. The cover isn't water-tight, so this is to be expected. I'm just curious what others are seeing."

A post on the Cybertruck Owners Club page says, "I picked up my Cybertruck at the end of August. Has anyone experienced a truck bed leak from the Tonneau cover in the center of the truck bed? I took it to the Tesla Service Center in White Plains, NY, and they said no fix."

Check out this video on how to fix the Cybertruck bed leak.

Conclusion:

Not all owners are having bed leaking issues. However, most owners have said the windshield wiper on the CT leaves streaks and is a weak point in the truck.

Most Cybertruck owners agree with Michael Brescio. They love their electric truck, and it's hands down the best vehicle they've owned. However, if I owned the 2022 Chevy Corvette C8 Z51 HTC, I would drive it much more.
