He probably just needs to re-gear it then. I've only seen that issue with jeeps when you go above a 35" tire but I'm not sure what the stock gearing on the taco is so might be higher from factory, thus the overheating with only 33s on it.
The other alternative to this issue as stated is to just upgrade the trans cooler
