While I believe Tesla needs to adopt LIDAR, someone shouldn't assume a car that's smart can overcome physics in rain like what is described. When the amount of water on the road exceeds the pitch angles descent rate, your tires will begin to hydroplane, which leads to loss of traction, but more worrisome is loss of steering effectiveness. Only a fool would relax their guard until you start hearing crash rates fall below say 1 percent(well below for me) of today's rates.
